BOB MARLEY

Bob Marley was born on the 6th of February 1945 in the Saint Ann Parish of Jamaica

In 1962, Bob recorded his first two singles ‘Judge Not’ and ‘One Cup of Coffee’ with Leslie Kong under the pseudonym Bobby Martell. Later on they split up due to money issues.
In 1963 Bob Marley, Bunny Livingstone and Peter Tosh and others joined together to form a band. They initially called themselves ‘The Teenagers’ but later on changed the names several times, finally settling themselves on the name ‘The Wailers’. they recorded ‘I’m Still Waiting’ and ‘It Hurts to be Alone’.
when he was coaching a group of vocal singer he met Rita Anderson and married her in 1966.
In 1966 after marrying Rita Anderson, he moved with his mother in Wilmington, Delaware. However, less money and record producers wanting him to compromise on his Rastafarian messages in his songs meant a lot of conflict in his life. So hewent back to Jamaica and started working in a factory to earn his living.
Bob Marley began wearing his trademark dreadlocks in keeping with his Rastafarian faith.

In 1973 The Wailers released their first album worldwide. It was called ‘Catch a Fire’ which did quite well. Then a year later, they released another album titled ‘Burnin’. This album included their hit songs like ‘Get Up, Stand Up’ and ‘I Shot the Sheriff’. This introduced Marley on the international stage.

In 1974, The Wailers broke up with each of the three band members wanting to pursue solo careers

1975 Bob Marley had his first international hit ‘No Woman, No Cry’. After this he released his album ‘Rastaman Vibration’ in 1976 which became a Billboard chart topper for four weeks.

In 1977, Bob Marley was diagnosed with cancer. He had sustained an injury on right toe which had never healed. He refused to go ahead with any amputation surgery as it was against the Rastafarian faith.

. Rastafarian faith also believed that smoking marijuana was an uplifting experience which would connect the human body to the divine.

Bob Marley died on the 11th of May, 1981 at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Miami, Florida. He was 36. His final words to his son Ziggy were ‘Money can’t buy life’. As per his wishes, he was buried with his guitar, a soccer ball, a marijuana bud, a ring given to him by the Prince Asfa Wossen of Ethiopia and a Bible.

Body Image: Influence of media

women who are insecure about their bodies are more likely to buy beauty products, new clothes, and diet aids. But where does this insecurity originate from?
Research shows that exposure to images of thin and young air-brushed female bodies is linked to depression, loss of self-esteem and the development of unhealthy eating habits in women and girls which in turns makes them insecure about their bodies. One's opinion and how they feel about their body parts is referred to as Body Image.

" women are sold to the diet industry by the magazines they read and the television programes they watch, all of which makes them anxcious about their body weight" Jean Kilbourne.

The most disturbing fact would be that media images of female beauty are unattainable for all but a very small number of women. Most women’s magazines now days have ten times more ads and articles promoting weight loss than men’s magazines do, of these over three-quarters of the covers of women’s magazines include at least one message about how to change a woman’s bodily appearance—by diet, exercise or cosmetic surgery.

Nowadays media plays an important role in the ways most women think and feel about their bodies. Media present unattainable beauty ideals, this can cause us to have some unrealistic expectations for our own bodies.
Body hatred is fashionable. Young girls watch adult women, and they know that one of the ways to be a big girl, a grown-up, is that we have to grab hold of a part of ourselves with disgust and say, “Look at this, I’m too fat.”

Youth is promoted all over the media along with thinness as an essential criterion of beauty.

Why cant we be happy with the way our body is?
Isnt healthy eating and regular exercise the key to stay fit and keep our bodies looking their best?

what happens in 2012? would the world end?

Long Count Calendar of the Ancient Mayans ends on Dec 21 2012.
On December 21st, 2012 there is a close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic (path of the Sun).

There isnt much info on what Mayans thought would happen in 2012, but the consensus of opinion is that there will be great change. To some people this means a positive, spiritual change. Others consider that a catastrophic event may have been predicted.

Is the world to End?........
